Bobsleigh is a discipline that requires strength, speed, excellent stability and endurance, and Axel Brown – pilot for the Great Britain Bobsleigh Team – has these attributes in droves.
His natural athleticism saw Axel gain silver and bronze medals to national level at Taekwondo, and play American Football for Colorado State University, before moving to winter sports.
His first taste of bobsleigh came in 2014 with a pilot bob ride in Park City, Utah, and he subsequently joined the GB training programme including time in 2015 spent at brilliantly monikered ‘bob school’.
Axel made his Great Britain debut at the Europa Cup in January 2016, then after consistent performance had his first outing at World Cup level in January 2018, narrowly missing selection for the Olympic team.
His palmares include silver medals in the 2- and 4-man bobsleigh at the North America’s cup in 2019.
He credits Forth Edge with helping him achieve the type of marginal gains that make all the difference when competing for milliseconds at the highest level of his sport.
