Intense intervals combining cardiovascular activity with explosive power, crossfit is a sport where performance needs to be balanced against injury and fatigue.

Greater insight into your body and how it performs means you can find your limits and train to them without tipping over into the realm of overtraining.

The information provided by Forth Edge allows you to take control of your training and development, understand what your body needs and tailor your sessions to strengths and weaknesses.

We want athletes like you to be able to perform your best in a sustainable way; after all, a healthy body responds best to exercise.

Forth Edge gives you insight into how your body functions on the inside, how well your muscles recover after working out, your energy availability, and where there are areas that could be better supported with nutrition or rest.

What biomarkers are important for crossfit athletes?

Crossfit is a form of high intensity interval training, where the body is put under training stress in the short term for longer term gains in strength and stamina. It’s during the recovery from these sessions that the benefits set in, so long as the body has the essential micronutrients such as iron and vitamins D and B12, and proteins and carbohydrates, to build the muscle back up.

Testing with Forth Edge can help to avoid issues with overtraining and fatigue by detecting elevated biomarkers for muscle damage and inflammation such as creatine kinase and cortisol.

How often should I test?

To build up a clear picture of your own personal biomarker baselines, testing throughout the year is recommended, and Forth Edge suggests every three months.

This allows you to not only test against other athletes of a similar age and gender, but also establish your own personal ‘normal’, making significant changes due to training, nutrition, injury or illness more insightful.

We work with professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts to help them reach new levels of performance

Harry Tanfield

Road and track cyclist

“I find the information about my blood values at different points in the season very valuable; it helps me guide my training and monitor the training load. Equally my nutritionist, coach and gym coach use this information to better enable them to direct my training. It’s a complete team effort and Forth Edge makes this possible. Plus the test is super quick and easy.”

Tom Evans

Ultra runner

“As a professional athlete I need to ensure that I’m looking after my body throughout the year. Being an ultra runner, my training volume is high (225km average per week) and it’s essential to stay healthy. This is where Forth Edge has helped me; my first test showed that my iron levels were low and I have now been able to improve them which has really helped my performance. It’s an essential part of my training and racing as an endurance athlete!”

Susie Cheetham

Triathlon

“The more Forth Edge results I’ve had the better I’ve been able to compare previous results and therefore discover what is normal for me. Last year I had elevated white blood cell results and inflammation compared to previous results. It came 5 weeks after a bad cold that I thought I was over but turns out I wasn’t and I could adapt my training accordingly.”
